⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Uelsmann: Process and Perception by Jerry Uelsmann and John Ames contains photographs and commentary by Uelsmann along with an essay by Ames. From concept to technique involving combining multiple images, Uelsmann provides insight on how he created some of his most famous surrealist works of art. This book also includes a portfolio of ninety of the artist’s most recent (as of 1985) photographs, introduced by an essay by John Ames.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading and looking at the photographs in this book from beginning to end. I have always loved art and previously seen Uelsmann’s work in museums, and reading his commentary in this book, getting to know more about his process, has definitely made me appreciate Uelsmann’s art in a new and deeper way. It amazes me how seamlessly he blends images together before the invention of Photoshop. Overall, I loved this book and recommend it to anyone who likes photography or art in general!
