'The Deal of a Lifetime' by Fredrik Backman, 65 pages - Instagram @c_reads_books

The Deal of a Lifetime by Fredrik Backman tells the story of the meeting of a father and son for the first time in a long time on the night before Christmas Eve. The father had been in the hospital with cancer and met a five year old girl also battling cancer. Although the father was a bad one, neglecting his wife and son and focusing on his triumphs in business, his meeting the little girl changes everything. He has the opportunity to make the deal of a lifetime and do something impactful that could change the life of a little girl he barely knows, but he first has to see his son and decide what his own life has been worth.

I really loved this novella. Intertwined with some half to full page illustrations, the story Backman tells is, although short, heavy, powerful, and heartwarming. I have now read all of Backman’s books and have yet to be disappointed. His stories provide laughter, despair, love, hope and more and inspire empathy, truly encapsulating the human experience and life in general. Overall, I loved this novella, and I cannot recommend it (and literally any other book of Backman’s) enough!
