The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho tells the story of a shepherd named Santiago who travels from Spain to Egypt in search of a treasure that he believes is waiting for him. The journey develops, with the search for literal treasure turning into a discovery of the treasure within.

This book is told in a very traditional quest plot, which is not my favorite. The book felt sort of mundane and predictable to me. I do not love quest plots, and this one was too much the exact definition of a quest, in my opinion. The story felt very formulaic, and although the lesson was nice and inspiring, it did not feel like much of a revelation. Overall, this book was not my favorite, but it is a very quick read and a good one for someone who likes quests.
