Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury tells the story of a carnival that comes to Green Town, Illinois. Although the carnival advertises the usual attractions, Cooger & Dark’s Pandemonium Shadow Show is like no other. The carnival rolls into town just after midnight in late October, which is unusual, to say the least. Although it seems unusual, the calliope music is successful in drawing in two boys, Will and Jim. Yet when they begin to discover the dark secrets of the sideshow, their worlds are truly turned upside down, with an October like no other forcing them to face true evil and grow up overnight.
I loved this book immensely. This novel is definitely another testimony to Bradbury’s eloquence and immaculate way with words. I was truly enraptured in the story from beginning to end, and Bradbury’s description of the setting and the characters who came with the carnival was perfect. This novel was beautifully chilling and eerie, making me all the more entranced in this dark fantasy tale. I really loved this book from beginning to end, and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a story that will keep you intrigued and guessing the whole read through!
