Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse relays the spiritual journey of self-discovery of a man named Siddhartha. Siddhartha is a young man who leaves his family for a contemplative life and quickly becomes restless, discarding it for one filled with desire, lust, and greed. Siddhartha also soon becomes bored and sickened by the bad in his new life, and moves on once again. The despairing Siddhartha reaches a river where he hears a sound that marks the real beginning of his life. Siddhartha experiences suffering and rejection, which ultimately leads him to peace and wisdom.

I greatly enjoyed this book. I loved reading Siddhartha’s journey through life and his overall character development. This book eminently showed how some lessons cannot be taught and instead must come from each person’s own struggle throughout life to find truth. I always love reading philosophical books, and Siddhartha is no exception. I can wholeheartedly recommend this quick read!
