Lean on Me by Pat Simmons tells the story of a woman, Tabitha Knicely, who has recently become a caregiver for her great-aunt, whose dementia is progressively getting worse. Tabitha has no idea what she’s gotten herself into, which is apparent to her neighbor Marcus Whittington. Originally threatening to call the police on Tabitha for elder neglect, when Marcus begins to spend more and more time with the pair, he starts to see the love Tabitha has for her great-aunt, and is happy to help her however he can.

To be quite frank, I hated this book. Rarely do I dislike books this much, or care to admit I do when I do. Honestly, the only reason I bought this book in the first place was because there was a buy one, get one 50% off deal at Barnes & Noble, and there was a small selection of books to choose from. The basic storyline was decent, but the characters were pretty poorly developed, in my opinion. It was a pretty generic and boring romance novel, which I was unaware of when I bought it. Romance is probably my least favorite genre, and me randomly picking this book clearly did not work out in my favor. The entire story was corny and I could predict the ending after reading the first 15 pages. I hate to bash any book, considering how much work it is to write one, but I honestly cannot think of anything good to say about this book. I’ve never read such a predictable and boring story, and would not recommend this to anyone.
