'Inferno' by Dante Alighieri, 192 pages - Instagram @c_reads_books

Inferno by Dante Alighieri is the first part of Dante’s Divine Comedy. It is narrated by Dante himself, and the poetry inside the book recounts the journey of Dante through Hell, while being guided by the Roman poet Virgil. Throughout the book, Dante sees people he recognizes and sees the punishments given to them. As Dante and Virgil travel deeper into the depths of Hell, the scenery becomes increasingly morbid and macabre until they lastly meet Lucifer himself. After having seen a lot of gruesome scenes, the pair eventually escape Hell and arrive back on Earth.

I somewhat liked this book. I thought the story was very interesting and dark, which enticed me. I also liked the style that the book was written in, as poetry, yet at times the language was difficult to understand. I find this to be true with any older book though, and I just personally am not a big fan of reading old English throughout an entire novel. It is interesting to think how much languages evolve, and it is especially obvious when you read a book as old as this one. Although sometimes the language was hard to understand, I still think the book was interesting and pretty enjoyable to read. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes classics or just wants to expand their reading horizons!
