'God Bless You, Dr. Kevorkian' by Kurt Vonnegut, 92 pages - Instagram @c_reads_books

God Bless You, Dr. Kevorkian by Kurt Vonnegut is a short book containing 21 fictional interviews given by the author to various dead people, thanks to the assistance of Dr. Jack Kevorkian. Among the interviewees are Clarence Darrow, Adolf Hitler, Sir Isaac Newton, Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, and everyone’s favorite fictional science fiction writer Kilgore Trout. Originating as a series of interludes for WNYC public radio, the fictional interviews included in this book developed into a series of questions and answers about what we live for and what/if it all matters in the end.

I absolutely loved this book. These short interviews were both funny and serious, with Vonnegut talking about heaven as a humanist, yet also truly looking at why we’re all here. Vonnegut’s imaginations of the people he interviews are undeniably entertaining and amusing to read. His views on life and what it all means, as well as his imaginations of others’ are enough to make a reader want to rethink their priorities and cherish the life they have. I would recommend this short book to any fan of Vonnegut, or just someone looking for a good laugh and some hope!
