⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Exterminator! by William S. Burroughs contains 30 short stories on topics including science-fantasy wars, racism, corporate capitalism, drug addiction, and various psychiatric and medical horrors. The stories are all fairly short, ranging in length from one to 17 pages. Although the stories differ in subject matter, they all fit together to form a mosaic-like novel.
I didn’t particularly love this short story collection. Some stories I really liked, yet over half of the stories I didn’t really care for. Some of my favorites were Astronaut’s Return, The Perfect Servant, From Here to Eternity, They Do Not Always Remember, and Electricals. I generally liked the subject matter Burroughs explores in these stories, but I didn’t always enjoy Burroughs’ style. Despite not loving every short story, I didn’t strongly hate any either. Overall, I didn’t really care for this short story collection, but recommend it if you’re looking for something different to read!
